PMDD: A Partner’s CBT‑Informed Guide

Educational content only. PMDD care should be coordinated with clinicians. Partners can support, not replace, treatment. See our Medical Disclaimer.

How partners can help

  • Validate first: reflect feelings and avoid debate about whether symptoms are “real”.
  • Plan by cycle: agree on helpful supports during peak days (meals, chores, rest).
  • Skill prompts: gently cue CBT strategies your partner already uses.
  • Protect sleep/routine: help maintain anchors that stabilize mood.

Journaling prompts (for partners)

  1. What seemed to help most today (specific action), and how do I know?
  2. One sentence of validation I offered was… and my partner’s response was…
  3. What we can plan together for the next peak days.

Consider brief shared logs; see How to Journal.

When to seek care

Escalating mood symptoms or safety concerns require professional input. Encourage and support access to care.
